AIS (Active Isolated Stretching) - A manual stretching technique that asks the patient to contract the muscle group, allowing the opposing muscle group to be stretched at the end of its available range by the therapist.
MET (Muscle Energy Technique)
- A treatment used to correct the misalignment of bones to their correct position after an injury, such as a slip and fall. During this treatment, the patient participates by tightening or contracting a specific muscle group in a position and direction determined by your therapist, who resists with equal force. The contracted muscle, attached to the bone, pulls the bone into its correct alignment. (Please note: this is never performed on an unhealed bone fracture to relieve pain.)
SCS (Strain Counter Strain) - This gentle technique is used to treat intense muscle spasms. The therapist places the painful area in a position where the soft tissue is shortened for a brief period, allowing for a reset of the smooth muscle and nerve endings in the fascia. The soft tissue can then relax.
TPR (Trigger Point Release) - This is a technique that uses the therapist's finger pressure to release tender spots within a muscle. Tender spots form over contracted sections of a muscle due to an injury or from repetitive movements or positions. These spots can cause pain in that muscle or cause pain which may travel away into another area of the body. Many patients feel relief after one treatment, though others require several treatments.
OCR (Occipital Cranial Release) - A technique designed to release the tense muscles at the back of the head and neck which can restrict blood vessels and create tension headaches.
